Two times
laureate of the International William Kapell Piano Competition in
Washington D.C., Second Grand Prize of the 1995 CBC Young
Performer’s Competition in Ottawa, and First
Prize of the 1993 National Festival of Music CIBC
in
Victoria (Canada), Daniel Moran's rapidly expanding list of awards have
placed him as one of the most promising talents of his generation.
Heralded for his poetic lyricism matched with intensity of expression,
the young Canadian pianist has already enjoyed an international career as
soloist and chamber music player.
Daniel Moran has appeared as soloist with such orchestras as
the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, the Cleveland Institute of Music
Orchestra, the University of Calgary Orchestra and the Calgary Civic Symphony and collaborated with conductors such as Kazuyoshoi Akiyama, Rosemary
Thomson, Richard Niezen,
Thomas Rolston and Edmund Agopian.
Daniel Moran has
given solo and chamber music performances in England, Germany, Austria and
Belgium. He has also given solo recital tours of Japan and Spain and was invited
as distinguished soloist at the Dallas Meyerson Symphony Center, the Calgary
Jack Singer Concert Hall, the Cleveland Institute of Music, the University of
Lethbridge, Medicine Hat College, the Toronto Aviva Foundation, the Atlanta
Georgia State University and the University of Calgary in the “Alberta in
Concert Series 2004”. Highlights of last season also included performances in
Northern England and the Texas Conservatory for Young Artist Concert Series.
Numerous
regional and national radio stations have broadcast his performances such as CBC Radio 2,
Classical FM
Toronto, CJRT Toronto and WCLV Cleveland. Recently, Daniel Moran participated
with piano-duo member Maneli Pirzadeh in a broadcast recording for CBC radio which included a
newly commissioned work by Canadian composer Michel Frigon as well as Bartok’s
Sonata for 2 Pianos and Percussion.
Additionally, Daniel Moran was featured as
the subject of an extended article in the highly respected “Washington
Post” Sunday magazine.
With the support
from the Canada Council and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Daniel Moran
studied with prestigious teachers such as Marilyn Engle, Sergei Babayan and Joaquin
Achucarro.
Native of
Calgary, Daniel Moran has completed an Artist Diploma at the Glenn Gould
School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto with André Laplante and is
currently enrolled in a Doctorate degree program at the Université de
Montréal under the supervision of Marc Durand.
